A native of Mumbai, India, Dr. Viren Balsara came to the USA in 1976 as a young surgeon to further his career. Finding a strong passion in diagnostic imaging, he completed his radiology residency from 1977 to 1980 (Bridgeport Hospital, CT – Yale University system), becoming ACR Board Certified in 1980. This was followed by a Fellowship in Body Imaging at Case Western from 1980 to 1981. He next held an academic teaching position as an Assistant Professor of Radiology at UC Irvine and UT Houston Medical Schools until 1984.
Dr. Balsara then entered a successful career in hospital private practice primarily at Memorial Hermann Hospital – The Woodlands where he was Director of Radiology Dept. (1995 to 2005), eventually rising to Hospital Chief of Staff from 2010 to 2012. Retiring from hospital work, Dr. Balsara now serves as a radiologist, consultant and medical director to the IRIS Radiology group and the many outpatient imaging centers it serves.
Dr. Balsara’s experience goes beyond all aspects of Body Imaging. His career allowed him to develop great exposure in the radiology subspecialties of CT, MRI, MSK Imaging, Neuroimaging and Interventional Radiology. However, his passion and love has always been all aspects of Ultrasound Imaging.
In his spare time, he enjoys working in his garden, vegan cooking, and animal rights activism.
